Elk Grove (Calif.) Monterey Trail cornerback Prophet Brown had a big day on Wednesday.
In the morning, the USC pledge signed his NLI with the Trojans.
And on Wednesday evening, he was featured in the All-American Bowl Road Show and presented his All-American Bowl game jersey.
For Brown, the entire day was a dream fulfilled.
“It was a dream come true,” said Brown. “It was something that is a lifetime achievement that I’ll never forget. One of my dreams and goals in middle school was to be an All-American and another was to play college football.”
Brown is the first selection to the All-American Bowl from Elk Grove since current San Francisco 49er Arik Armstead played in the 2012 game (out of Pleasant Grove HS), and he knows it’s a big honor.
“Honestly, it’s a great feeling from where I come from because it’s not super common so it’s a nice legacy to leave,” said Brown. “And it honestly strengthened what I believe in, that if you’re a baller, they’ll find you if you trust and believe in what you do.”
Brown actually called his shot in the summer, tweeting that he should be in an All-American.
“Honestly when I tweeted it, I knew I had a chance and I felt that I should be recognized as one,” said Brown. “It was a goal, but something you didn’t see happen a lot to players in my area, so it was a blessing to come true.”
USC head coach Clay Helton and cornerbacks coach Donte Williams were thrilled with Brown’s selection to the game.
“Coach Helton and coach Williams both congratulated me and sent me visuals, and let me know they’re proud of me,” said Brown.
Brown was able to host several of the people he is closest to for his jersey ceremony.
“I had a few of my senior teammates, my close and intermediate family all with me,” said Brown. “It was great and meant a lot to me.”
While he was bummed that there won’t be a game played in San Antonio, he was still thrilled with his selection to the game.
“It doesn’t take anything away from that aspect,” said Brown. “I understand we’re in different times and we’ve got to prioritize health and safety. But it is still great to be honored and recognized as an All-American.”
With his signing on Wednesday, recruiting is now over for Brown- now he’ll try to play his senior season at Monterey Trail before arriving at USC.
“I’ll be going in June to USC and I’m really excited about,” said Brown. “I can’t wait to get there, this USC team is fun to watch.”
And Brown, who was originally recruited by the Trojans to play running back before committing as a corner, is hoping he can be a part of the USC offense in some way.
“That’s definitely what we’re aiming for, getting me in on the return the game and hopefully some packages on offense,” said Brown. “Coach (Mike) Jinks originally recruited me for offense, so they know a little of what I can do.”
A four-star in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings, Brown ranks as the No. 12 cornerback in the country and No. 14 player in California by the composite while 247Sports ranks him as a top 10 cornerback nationally, checking in at No. 9 and the No. 10 prospect in the Golden State.
