The Monterey Trail Mustangs’ skill and talent throughout their 12-1 season was displayed all year long, and on Dec. 10, the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Sacramento Valley Chapter announced that it selected three Mustangs to the All Sac-Joaquin Section Football Team.

 

Marcus Jones, Jehiel Budgett and Zach Larrier were named to the Defense All SJS team.

 

Jones, a junior linebacker, Budgett, a senior defensive back, and Larrier, a quarterback, are three of 14 defensive players named by the committee, which was made up of high school coaches from north and south regions ranging from small to large schools.

 

Jones had 147 tackles and caused two fumbles, 2.5 sacks, Budgett had 38 tackles, had four interceptions, caused three fumbles and had one fumble recovery. Offensively, Budgett rushed for a team-leading 1,564 yards and 23 touchdowns  and had 232 receiving yards for one touchdown.

 

Larrier intercepted three passes and had 21 tackles in addition to being the starting quarterback and amassing 1,426 passing yards for 18 touchdowns and rushing for 990 yards and 16 additional touchdowns.
